Intro
In much the same way that Marshall McCluhan saw the world
being transformed by the availability of numerous books
in numerous languages and was inspired to write
"The Guttenberg Galaxy - the emergence of TypoGraphic man"
(approximate title) and of course his magnum opus
"Understanding Media", we see the world around us being
transformed by the internet, and even more so the celphone
-- not just instant communications (Scotty, Beam me Up!),
but instant TEXT in abreviated form.
This prompted "Mike" to almost jokingly suggest doing
Tolstoy's monumental "War and Peace" via text messaging
- and of course you know me (Frank), i started thinking
about how it could be a multi-cast and then "Jim" said
you could even have an assoicated text to which you would
refer and that would "direct" you what to send and where
to send it next. Hmmmm,
Of course we again are reminded of the "digital divide"
problem (see my extensive notes on the PNS site: -[The Digital Divide]-
(which i first began to investigate as part of my
MALT degree (M/A's in Learning and Technology at Ashford).
Regardless. ONward into the fog!!!

Fluency
And of course as McCluhan pointed out the medium is almost
never neutral. That is, the makers of the content or even
"just the service providers" have a big-time stake in the
technoloyg, it's deployment and of course $$'s usage.
As such, one idea is to simply look at the kinds of
ads that the various players are creating - obviously
in the long-time tradtion, they are spending time and
effort to find out how to package the new products
associated with texting and such.
